For this star, you will need 8 squares, all the same size. |

Fold the squares corner to corner so they have creases that look like this. |

Fold two of the corners so the points are touching in the center. Make sure they are lined up, you don't want a crooked checkerboard!
Then fold the top toward the middle as seen below. |
